Hello Div 3!

Last week our school held a spring showcase, where each division had the opportunity to share their learning with the community. Our class had 8 displays to show what we have been learning about these last few months. Below are some pictures of our displays.

Just a quick note to parents that the class will be heading to see a Symphony performance tomorrow with the other intermediate classes from the school.  It is sure to be a musically moving event!

Math: We are currently working on wrapping up our fractions unit.  Grade fours are working on identifying and comparing different fractions.  Grade fives are working on comparing fractions and identifying equivalent fractions. The whole class has been working on recognizing that fractions are not just used to represent areas but can also be used to talk about sets of things, and can also be used to divide number lines.

Science: Last week we wrapped up our mini unit on the digestive system.  This week we have been working on learning about the respiratory system and will have a small quiz on this topic next Tuesday.  Students have been reminded to take their science duotangs home so that they can study a little bit each day.

French:  Our current unit is on foods and eating. Students have been studying food vocabulary and learning verbs such as “manger” (to eat) and “aimer” (to like).  Students have just completed a small booklet about “eating together.”

Students have been reminded this week that we still have over six weeks of important study time together.  The class has been reminded that while we have lots of fun activities planned we do still have lots of academic tasks to complete as well.  Fun activities are planned throughout the month of June but have been done so in a flexible way that allows for students to remain at school if they have academic tasks that are outstanding. Parents, your support in helping students to maintain good study habits (daily reading, reflex math, and homework completion) really goes a long way in helping emphasize to students the importance of staying focused academicly until the very end of the school year.

Hello!

20170504_085431

Our students are in full gear heading towards the election on Tuesday! This week we learned about the importance of voting, and along with the other grade 5 classes made some campaign posters to get out the vote! By Monday we are hoping all of our students are ready to make an informed decision and participate in our student vote. Like our posters say: Get out your coat so you can go out and vote!
